That's Enough About "Checking In"

Between living through a pandemic and having to navigate everyday struggles, life has been unequivocally more difficult than normal for everyone. This communal collapse of morale has prompted discussions, or better yet debates, about what we should do to assist our fellow human beings. Phrases like “check-in on your strong friends” and “be kind to others” are beginning to resurface as solutions to our current dilemma. While they hold some validity, they are not enough. But let me be clear. This post is not about depression and anxiety. It’s not about suicidal ideations or actions. It’s not even about mental health. This post is about you.

You Matter to Someone.

Whether you believe it or not, there is someone in this world that cares about you. And not the superficial kind that comes with an expiration date. Oh no! This someone’s care is boundless as it has the power to transcend lifetimes without neglecting the needs of the present. There is someone that loves your laugh, even those times when you snort, and they’re able to find comfort in your soul. There is someone that loves you for being exactly who you are, and I think that’s a pretty beautiful gift to have.

You Matter to You.

Without ever having met you, I can attest with the utmost certainty that you’ve endured a multitude of life’s hardships. So why not make yourself proud by enjoying its triumphs? Remember that God was purposeful in giving you purpose. All of those sugar plum dreams and die-hard passions that occupy your heart and mind were placed there intentionally. I challenge you to do something about them as they deserve to come true. If nothing else, you deserve to do right by you.

You Matter.

A relentless exigency attributable to the ubiquitous ambiguity of life has been placed on us to perform. We mistakenly view our value, or sense of mattering, solely as the yielded outcomes of our productivity. However, I am here to shatter that distorted disillusionment until it transforms into a distant memory of the past. All that you are matters without any influence outside of your existence. Not because of what you can provide to others or even to yourself. You matter just because you do.

People are in need of more. More love. More compassion. More rest. I don’t know what more looks like for you, but I am going to try my hardest to be more honest about what more looks like for me. Here’s to moving forward!
